Safeguarding

For more information, or if you wish to report a concern, please contact either the Parish Safeguarding Officer at safeguarding@tewkesburyabbey.org.uk or the Diocese of Gloucester Safeguarding Team at safeguarding@glosdioc.org.uk

Safeguarding is a fundamental priority in the life and ministry of Tewkesbury Abbey. We recognise our shared responsibility to ensure that all people are kept safe, protected from harm, and supported in living full lives physically, mentally, and spiritually.

At different points in life, individuals may be vulnerable due to factors such as age, health, social circumstances, or past trauma. By recognising vulnerability and responding promptly, either directly or in partnership with other organisations, we aim to reduce risk and promote the wellbeing of all who engage with the Abbey.

Tewkesbury Abbey has established a range of safeguarding policies and procedures in line with the Diocese of Gloucester Safeguarding Handbook. Regular safeguarding training is provided to support the work of staff and volunteers. The Abbey’s Parish Safeguarding Officer plays an active role within governance structures, helping to ensure that safeguarding is embedded across all aspects of Abbey life and activity.

If you have any concerns about anyone or any aspect of our church life that makes you feel that someone will or is likely to cause harm to others, or someone is likely or will be harmed by what we do, please contact one of our Safeguarding Team. If someone is in immediate danger call 999.

The contact for the Diocese of Gloucester Safeguarding team can be found at https://gloucester.anglican.org/about-us/safeguarding/contacts/. Weekend cover is provided by thirtyone:eight on 0303 003 1111.
