Speaker Dr Claire Foster-Gilbert
Dr Foster-Gilbert is Director of Westminster Abbey’s Institute which works with the public service institutions around Parliament Square to revitalise moral and spiritual values in public life. After reading theology at Oxford Claire developed expertise in medical ethics and wrote The Manual for Research Ethics Committees and The Ethics of Medical Research on Humans becoming a national expert in research ethics and working with the Department of Health. Dr Foster-Gilbert has a keen interest in environmental issues. She has led efforts to shift the Church’s thinking on environmental issues offering a theological basis and practical guidance to change hearts and minds across the country. In addition to her books on ethics Claire has written a number of books on environmental issues including: Sharing God’s Planet; How many Light Bulbs does it take to change a Christian and Don’t stop at the lights: leading your church through a changing climate. Dr Foster-Gilbert is a lay canon at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The Theological Forum meets six times a year, and is open to all-of any faith or none- who have an interest in theological matters. Talks are held in Abbey House, next to the Abbey.
