The olive tree is a superb hardwood of varied colours. Because it has a life expectancy of up to 500 years and has a valuable fruit it is never cut down.
Only the pruned branches are used for carving.
Fair trade prices are paid to the workshops of the palestinian christians who make these excellent carved products by hand.
