Events and Facilities
The Abbey is a major centre for events of all kinds.
It is internationally renowned as a location for staging musical events. The Abbey provides a spectacular, large, open space with good musical acoustics. Orchestras, choirs and choral groups come from all over the world to play in the Abbey. The BBC uses it for recording concerts and there are regular organ recitals by internationally renowned organists who want to use the famous Milton and Grove organs. Every year, there is a weeklong festival of sacred music, Musica Deo Sacra, which attracts visitors from across the country. Orchestras and choirs playing as part of the Cheltenham Festival and the Three Choirs Festival perform in the Abbey.
In recent years, the Abbey has hosted major exhibitions and a performance of Shakespeare’s Twelfth Night was held in the delightful gardens of Abbey House. A series of concerts by internationally renowned artists such as Julian Lloyd, Willard White,
The King’s Singers and John Williams, as well as others, is also being staged
here. The Abbey is also available to, and used by, the local community for their
events and is the home of the annual Tewkesbury Food & Drink Festival.
The Abbey has also been used for filming purposes and will feature in the new David Starkey Series on the history of the monarchy.
In the Abbey Centre we offer rooms for conferences and for use by the local community.
